What
Black Writers for Peace and Social Justice (BWPSJ) was founded in 2024 to publish work by Black writers, provide skill-building learning experiences for Black writers and offer administrative training and services for literary organizations intent on creating a writing and public engagement practice founded in tenets of peace and social justice.
Why
Through collective action, Black writers can advocate for systemic change and influence public discourse on issues of peace and social justice. By leveraging our collective influence, we can impact the push for policies and practices that promote equality and fairness.
Who
We are Black professional writers of diverse genres who provide learning experiences for Black writers who write any genre-- from journalism and creative fiction to poetry and memoir. We also provide training and adminstrative services to literary organizations that serve Black writers.

Poets in the Park (MONTHLY)
MAY-SEPTEMBER, 2024
From May to September, immerse yourself in two hours of "quiet hours" designed for uninterrupted writing and reading in the company of fellow writers.
Each month, gather in a different county park, including Fort Washington Park, Cosca Park, Allen Pond Park, National Harbor, and Watkins Park, to find inspiration in nature and connect with local writers.
Overview:
Enjoy a brief introduction and writing prompt led by guest poets, followed by ample time for personal reflection and creation. Respect for fellow participants' focus is paramount, so bring your headphones and embrace the tranquil atmosphere.
Writing for Liberation Workshop
Virtual Series
In a world where the act of creation can be both a personal and political declaration, "Writing for Liberation" emerges as not just a workshop, but a journey towards self-discovery and societal change. Facilitated by Khadijah Ali-Coleman, the 2023-2026 Poet Laureate of Prince George County, Maryland, this writing series aims to heal and liberate the inner muse of each participant, connecting their work to the broader practice of liberation through guided exercises rooted in expressive writing and reflective practice.
